Review: Danio Yogurt

Now please bear with me for my second review. When it comes to writing, at the moment I consider myself a jack of all trades but a master of none. At this current moment, I am not a food critic, but I did my best and therefore it's passable as a blog post. I say passable...

Enjoy!

So I received a voucher to try Danio’s new super thick, 0% fat yogurt for free and thought that it would be a good idea to start up a review section for new or what I considered to be noteworthy things (Edit: This was going to be my first review but I changed my mind)

I picked the strawberry flavour, partly because I’m a sucker for old favourites and partly because it was the one my friend’s gorgeous baby boy chose too (thanks Aston!)

The yogurt introduces itself as being high protein and, therefore filling, and it doesn’t disappoint. In hindsight, perhaps eating it after midnight wasn’t the best idea. I am amazed at just how full up I am after eating the 160g pot. The adverts definitely describe it well, it is extremely thick, I found, almost too much so. The consistency was so odd, I wasn’t sure whether to chew it or not. Small spoonfuls are the way forward here, I think. I definitely think it’s perfect as a mid-morning or mid-afternoon snack; it’s certainly going to keep you going for a while.

I was bitterly disappointed with what they called a “strawberry fruit layer”. It didn’t seem to be more than syrup with a handle of seeds and a few suspect looking pieces of “strawberry” in it. It barely seemed to have a taste to it, which wasn’t helped by the overpowering taste of the main yogurt. Unfortunately, like some low and 0% fat products, it came across rather microbiotic tasting while I was expecting something along the lines of greek yogurt. The entire yogurt itself didn’t taste wholly unpleasant, but I think working on the fruit layer might give it a boost.

Another thing that I’m not overly impressed about is that an hour and two drinks after eating, I can still taste it. It feels like it’s created a layer around my mouth which I thoroughly dislike.

Overall, not incredibly impressed with this product but it wasn’t bad in itself. Partly, I think I chose a bad time to test it out, but I think further advertising of this as a more in-between meals snack would do wonders.

I think I’ll definitely award this a 5 out of 10.
